Last Friday (14th February) we were very excited to host our first Valentine’s Jam Afternoon for all of our learning disabled participants at The Edge
“This has been brilliant, I have never sang on a microphone before, but I felt like a pop star.”
I had the idea of doing a special Valentine’s Jam Afternoon for all of the Edge’s Learning Disabled participants, as I know how much everyone enjoys dancing and singing. We would have a live band playing some of the participants’ favourite songs for them to sing along, dance or play along to.
Members of Expressive Edge and Expressive Too (our theatre companies for adults with learning disabilities), Stepping Out (our dance company for adults with learning disabilities) and The Dressing Room Training programme received their invites and our house band and I worked out a playlist including some of the favourites from the Stepping Out Dance Class.
As it was a Valentine’s Special, we decorated the Cafe Bar with loveheart sweets, pink and red chocolates and plenty of valentines themed decorations!
“I spent the whole weekend practicing Abba.”
On the day the brilliant live band played some fab songs and we were thrilled that everyone joined in – from getting up on stage to sing their favourite song, to shaking the tambourine along to their friends star turn or simply strutting some moves on the dance floor. And I think I had nearly as much fun as the participants!
It was a huge success and we are already planning the next one! Watch this space!
