ABOUT

Eggs is a dark comedy based on friendship, fertility, and freaking out.  The play delves into the underlying issues around gender identity, roles, and disparity from systemic societal pressures. The themes in the play have a great deal to say about the world we live in, and the effects our neoliberal society has on young people growing up today.

Eggs follows two women, leading very different lives, the only thing uniting them is their struggle against society’s expectations. This is a story about young women trying to figure out who they are, how to exist and who to be. In the end, it is friendship, however flawed, which rescues those women from utter alienation.

I am an autonomous, independent, sexually self satisfying being.

Females, Friendship, Fertility, and Freaking out

Director Chantell Walker said:

“I feel honored and privileged that Lauren and Emily approached me and asked me to come on board and direct this version of Eggs by Florence -Keith Roach.  During our first meeting as a team, we instantly connected personally and professionally. We are all creative women of the same age from the North and we could all relate to the topics that Keith highlights in the play.”

“Eggs completely breaks down the lies that women are being fed, by social media, magazines, tea that makes you have a flat tummy and also makes you sh*t yourself. That we at present are not good enough and if we alter who we are, if we buy into their crap, we will be beautiful, desired, worthy.”

“This story is of two young women from Manchester, best friends who share their best and worst times together. They let us see what it’s really like to be a mid 20’s woman in 2018 and the perfection that we are being sold doesn’t exist.”
