Every day, in some form or another, we are called upon to perform: to be articulate, to be confident, to communicate, to present, to impress, to shine, to convince, to entertain. This comes naturally for some, especially if they are given constant applause! The vast majority of us need to learn and develop the skills as an Actor would ….. and no one expects an Actor to achieve success without the proper training.

By looking at body language, the voice, status, movement and relaxation, participants are made aware of the importance of looking after the ‘tools of their trade’. Practical, simple exercises are given that participants can apply to any situation, whenever necessary.

Many people struggle with personal confidence and situations at work can highlight this. The workshop focuses on helping to raise self confidence… and presenting confidence even when you’re not feeling it.

In any one day a multitude of unexpected issues can be thrown at us. Learning the actor’s skill of improvisation can help to think on one’s feet and to develop skills in accepting and building rather than blocking.

The one day course aims to improve communication, confidence and presentation skills in a non threatening environment. No one will be put on the spot or made to feel stupid, no one will be asked to be a tree as is often the fear in arts based training.

The day is held in our beautiful 19th Century building which is now a thriving Theatre & Arts Centre in the heart of Chorlton and includes a lunch and teas and coffees.

The course is run by The Edge’s Artistic Director Janine Waters
