Q&A: An Evening With Queen Bayard

Via her electric wit and her flexible/soulful voice, Queen Bayard takes us on a rich musical journey from show tunes to pop with a few of her own songs peppered in the mix.

Accompanied by a live pianist, Queen Bayard is sure to capture your heart, both through song and delightful quips abound. True cabaret at its finest.

Expect to laugh, to sing-along, and to perhaps shed at least one tear.

Tell us a little bit about Queen Bayard and what audiences can look forward to expect from the iconic character.

Queen Bayard is classy yet crunchy with a massive heart underneath her padded bosom. She has a bit of sass in her bones, it’s true but can’t say no to a good torch song. Accompanied by Josh Dawson on the piano, the audience can expect soulful and delicious vocals from Miss Bayard, a nice mixed handbag of songs, and a few juicy anecdotes along the way. Expect to be entertained, enthralled, and quite possibly to fall in love.

Can you give us a sneak peek as to which show tunes or subject matter of your own songs we can look forward to watching you perform?

There is a real mix of songs from musical theatre to pop to Disney. There may be even a couple of originals thrown in there. The two main themes I would say are love and identity. As far as love goes, we are talking the hopeless romantic kind, and where identity is concerned, we are talking about self-exploration and acceptance. A few songs to look forward to are ‘There Are Worse Things I Could Do,’ ‘Reflection’ from Mulan, and ‘Marry Me a Little’ by Stephen Sondheim. A bit of Marvin Gaye might have a moment as well.

What’s something you’d like an audience member to take away from your show?

My favourite cabarets are deeply authentic and personal, and they welcome each individual in on the action. I would like each audience member to walk away with a sense of community, and self-empowerment, and to be entertained darling! I hope everyone walks out with a giant smile on their face.
