Q&A: Replica

We sat down with Alex, who will be directing Replica for The Edge Young Actors Company, all about the upcoming production coming to The Edge on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd March at 7:30 pm

Tell us a little more about The Edge Young Actors Company

The Edge Young Actors Company is an opportunity for young people to develop their performance and theatre-making skills in contributing to a piece of high-quality performance. Members are taught to work as an ensemble, deliver text and explore physical theatre techniques. Through a rehearsal process similar to that I would conduct for my own Theatre Company, The Construct Theatre Project, sessions will provide young people with a perspective as well as a toolkit to creatively approach theatrical text, and maybe even create their own! I am very excited to be entering the second year of The Edge Young Actors Company as a part of the National Theatre Connections programme. This is an invaluable opportunity for young people to be a part of the country’s most exciting youth theatre festivals and has been such an exciting process to be a part of.
Connections is the National Theatre’s annual, nationwide youth theatre festival. The programme is 28 years old and has a history of championing the talent of young people across the UK.

Tell us a little more about the upcoming production

Replica is a thrilling play with a story that I can only describe as a combination of John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’  and ‘Lord of The Flies’. The story follows a group of students who turn on the new kid, Sam, after they come to suspect him of being replaced by an exact replica of himself. A mystery about friendship, the nature of truth, and humanity. When it comes to it, how do you prove that you are a human?

We have been hard at work for the past four months bringing this production to life and I am beyond excited for us to share it with audiences this week!

What can audiences expect to look forward to with Replica?

Audiences watching this production can expect to see a truly special piece of high-quality youth theatre filled with time-slipping suspense, mystery and science fiction. Our performers have given so much of their time, energy and talent into all aspects of the rehearsal process and it will be a very special moment to see their efforts pay off.

I am sure that I will be able to speak on their behalf and say that they are also thrilled to share this piece of performance on Friday and Saturday evening!
