The Edge are thrilled to announce the cast for our upcoming production SMITH

We are thrilled to announce the full cast for our upcoming production SMITH, a thrilling stage adaptation of the novel by Leon Garfield.

Lewys Taylor will star as the sharp and streetwise pickpocket Smith, joined on stage by Jenny Platt, Channique Sterling-Brown, Paul Duckworth and Richard Costello

Written and Directed by Janine Waters, with Music by Simon Waters, Smith tells the story of a young boy whocounts highwaymen & the hangman amongst his friends. A pickpocket by trade he’s swift, stealthy and goes unnoticed, but one smog-filled night he steals from the wrong gentleman and witnesses a brutal murder. As the adrenaline kicks in he realises that the document he’s just so skilfully taken is worth killing for, if only he could read, this deadly piece of paper could change his fortune forever – but right now all Smith needs to do is run…..

Lewys Taylor is originally from North Wales and his theatre credits include David in A PLACE OF SAFETY; Peter in PETER & THE WOLF; Peter in THE FLETTON RAILWAY CHILDREN. Lewys has worked extensively as a voiceover artist – his work includes: US radio plays (including lead roles) alongside Brian Blessed and John Rhys Davies; various audiobooks on Amazon’s Audible including Joseph Knox’s AIDAN WAITS TRILOGY; and ADR for HBO’s CHERNOBYL and Sky1’s JAMESTOWN.

Jenny Platt is best known for her role of Violet Wilson in CORONATION STREET but has also made appearances in other series including Jeanne in VERSAILLES SEASON 3, IN THE CLUB, MAPP & LUCIA and SCOTT & BAILEY. Her theatre credits include playing: May in FOOLS FOR LOVE at Royal Exchange Theatre; Giant’s Wife/Fairy in JACK AND THE BEANSTALK at Oldham Coliseum; Joan in LOVE SONG at Sheffield; Mandi in MEAT PIE, SAUSAGE ROLL at The Oldham Coliseum; Susie Monahan in WIT at The Royal Exchange Manchester; Eliana in DREAMING UNDER A DIFFERENT MOON for The Edge and Kate in SPINACH for The Edge at The Royal Exchange Manchester

Richard Costello is a stage, television and film actor. His recent theatre credits include: Abanaza in ALADDIN at the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich; Daniel 3 in NOW AND THEN at Above The Stage Theatre; Captain Flash in MISS IN HER TEENS for Lynchpin Productions and Captain Hook in PETER PAN at Key Theatre. His television and film credits include: Sebastian in GLADIATOR for Dreamworks and Helmsman in VIKINGS: THE AMBUSH for Ridley Scott Associates.

Paul Duckworth’s recent theatre credits include Gerry Linford in THE MENLOVE AVENUE MURDER MYSTERY, at Liverpool Royal Court; Judge Turpin in SWEENEY TODD at Liverpool Everyman and Gerard Gardner in BRICK UP THE MERSEY 2 at Liverpool Royal Court. SMITH is Channique Sterling-Brown’s Manchester Theatre debut, having previously worked as Assistant Director at The Dukes Theatre.

The creative team includes Designer David Haworth, Lighting designer Kay Haynes andMusician Alec Waters
