Frequently asked questions

The Box Office

How is this different from an ordinary Reading Group?

Sessions are facilitated by Dr Mariana Casale, who has developed the unique practice of Narrative Bibliotherapy, which combines literary expertise, Narrative Therapy and many years’ experience teaching and facilitating reading groups, offering workshops and supervising practitioners.

Who is it for?

Anyone who enjoys reading and is open to reflecting on their own views and those of others is welcome. You do not need any literary expertise or experience: it is a reader centred activity, so we focus on what emotions/thoughts/memories/impressions the stories evoke in you and how this helps you to relate to your own story.

Why are spaces limited?

We keep the group to 15 readers max. so that Mariana can make sure each and every one has a chance to share in the conversation.

Do I have to prepare anything?

Yes: there will be two short stories to read every two weeks.

How much does it cost?

£30 per month, bookable in advance.

Do I need to book?

Yes, please contact Mariana to book your place:

Find your own story in the stories that you read.

Mariana Casale holds space for readers to share a personal and in-depth experience of text while benefitting from sharing reactions and perspectives with the group. Readers are encouraged to read mindfully, observing their reactions and reflecting on the various emotions, ideas, memories that each story triggers. All interpretations are valid and valuable and that is what we focus on.

We meet twice a month on a Wednesday to discuss two short stories which Mariana will normally distribute via email.

Booking is essential as spaces are limited.
